Senator Sam Jenkins has built a distinguished legal career advocating for individuals and communities across Louisiana. He has successfully brought cases against utility companies for rate violations and customer overcharges and is currently engaged in federal litigation seeking recovery of excessive electricity charges for residents of Rapides Parish.
His legal practice is rooted in representing plaintiffs in serious personal injury, wrongful death, and workers’ compensation cases. Senator Jenkins has handled complex litigation across multiple jurisdictions throughout Louisiana, including cases involving catastrophic injuries such as brain trauma and amputations. His extensive experience in trial advocacy, mediation, and negotiated settlements reflects a long-standing commitment to securing justice for his clients.
In addition to individual representation, Senator Jenkins has significant experience in class actions, mass torts, and oil field contamination litigation. He has also tried criminal cases and provides trusted legal counsel in estate planning, including the preparation of successions, wills, and powers of attorney.
Currently, Senator Jenkins serves in the Louisiana Senate representing District 39. He holds a leadership role as Vice Chair of the Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee and serves on the Judiciary A, Senate and Governmental Affairs, Natural Resources, and Joint Legislative Committee on Capital Outlay. His public service also includes prior terms in the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 2, where he served as Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.
Senator Jenkins’ leadership extends to local government, having served as Chairman of the Shreveport City Council and Mayor Pro Tempore, as well as a member of the Caddo Parish Commission. He is also a past Chairman of the Board of Directors for Legal Services of North Louisiana, further demonstrating his lifelong dedication to public service and community advocacy.
